Explained

What people think about Paranormal Activity 4

Paranormal Activity 4 works best as a modern campfire story told through the glow of everyday screens, turning Skype calls, hallway cams, and even the Xbox Kinect into nervy little windows where you start scanning corners you didn’t know you feared. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman keep the series’ minimalist magic alive: long stretches of quiet suburban normalcy that tighten into a vise, punctuated by jolts that play especially well with a crowd. Kathryn Newton anchors it with a believable, grounded teen performance, which makes the creeping dread feel less like a gimmick and more like something invading a real home. It’s not for viewers who want big, showy set pieces or a totally fresh formula, but if you like slow-burn tension, found-footage intimacy, and scares that sneak up on you, this is an easy, nasty-good watch.
