An academic writer and explorer before her career shift into film, she met her future husband, director Ernest B. Schoedsack, while on expedition through the Galapagos Islands in 1925; the couple would later marry in 1926 and collaborate on five films together during their time in Hollywood, remaining a couple until Rose's death at the age of 82 in 1978.
