
Miryam Charles
Miryam Charles is a filmmaker and visual artist of Haitian descent based in Laval. Her practice moves between cinema and visual arts, often engaging with questions of memory, belonging, mourning, and the afterlives of historical violence. Her films have been presented at festivals throughout Québec and internationally. Her debut feature, This House, premiered at the Berlinale and went on to screen at the AFI Film Festival; it was also selected for TIFF’s Top 10 and named one of Sight and Sound’s Best Films of 2022. In 2022, she also premiered her short film At Dusk at Locarno.

Her work has been exhibited at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, MoMA, Basis Frankfurt, the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery, the Everson Museum of Art, and the Palais de Tokyo. In 2025, she received the Charles Officer Legacy Award from TIFF and CBC. In 2026, her short film, L’Île aux trésors received the Best Narrative Short award at BlackStar Film Festival. She is currently working on the feature films Vers le soleil ou plus près encore and Les filles de Borel.
