Weathering with You is clearly aiming for a swoony, modern fairy tale about young love colliding with big, supernatural stakes, and on a purely visual level it’s often stunning in that signature Shinkai way. The problem is the story can feel familiar and a bit overstuffed, with pacing that drifts and a third act that asks you to buy into leaps of logic and world rules that aren’t always satisfying. If you need tight plotting, grounded character decisions, or clean world-building, this may leave you cold despite the gorgeous rain-soaked atmosphere. But if you’re happy to float on mood, music, and romantic yearning—and can handle some suggestive material and mild violence—it’s an emotionally earnest ride even when the narrative wobbles.
