Where the Crawdads Sing is the kind of movie that pulls you in on pure atmosphere first: a sunlit, shadowy marsh that feels alive, and a lonely coming-of-age story that unfolds with the patience of a tide. Daisy Edgar-Jones gives Kya a fierce, wounded intelligence that makes you root for her even when the town has already decided what she must be, and the film’s romance and mystery threads tighten in a way that keeps you leaning forward without turning it into a cheap thriller. It’s heartfelt and visually sumptuous, more interested in mood, longing, and the ache of being misunderstood than nonstop twists—though it absolutely knows how to keep a secret. Fair warning: it includes some violence and a sexual assault, and if you prefer brisk pacing over lyrical storytelling, it may not be your tempo, but if you want an engrossing, emotionally charged escape, it’s easy to see why people get swept up in it.
