Door Lock (2018)

Door Lock is special because it turns an everyday space—a tiny apartment and the routines that should feel safe—into a pressure cooker of dread, tapping into a very real, specific fear with unnerving precision. It’s a lean, tightly wound thriller that keeps tightening the screws, not through flashy twists but through a gripping sense that someone is always just offscreen, and that the ordinary can become menacing in an instant. Anchored by a strong lead performance, the film pulls you into Kyung-min’s anxious headspace until you’re checking locks along with her, riding a tense, escalating mystery that never lets you relax. If you prefer your suspense gentle or your crime stories comforting, this may feel too claustrophobic—but if you want a thriller that gets under your skin and stays there, it’s a terrific watch.

Door Lock is clearly trying to bottle that real, modern fear of living alone and not feeling safe in your own space, and for a while it works thanks to a tense setup and a claustrophobic apartment setting. The problem is that once the mystery gets rolling, the film often plays like a checklist of familiar thriller beats, with pacing that can feel slow and a plot that’s easier to predict than it wants to be. Kyung-min’s decisions may test your patience too, especially if you need a smart, proactive lead to stay invested. If you enjoy straightforward, mood-driven suspense and can forgive some generic turns, it’s watchable, but if you’re craving a sharp, escalating thriller that sticks the landing, this may disappoint.
