Meg 2: The Trench is the kind of unapologetically big, silly creature feature that remembers movies can be a ride—one part deep-sea nightmare, one part summertime popcorn spectacle. Ben Wheatley leans into the gleeful excess, letting Jason Statham’s cool-headed toughness bounce off escalating chaos until the film hits a sweet spot of campy thrills and straight-faced action. The tone is loud, fast, and knowingly ridiculous, with set pieces that keep topping themselves as the ocean’s “what if” horrors collide with human greed. If you want grounded science or subtlety, look elsewhere—but if you’re on the fence and craving entertaining mayhem with teeth, this one happily takes the plunge.
