Kabir Singh is the kind of romantic drama that doesn’t politely ask for your attention—it grabs it, largely thanks to Shahid Kapoor’s fiercely committed performance that makes Kabir’s brilliance and self-destruction feel uncomfortably alive. Sandeep Reddy Vanga stages the film with a bruising intensity, letting passion, ego, and heartbreak collide in scenes that play like emotional thunderstorms rather than tidy melodrama. The music does a lot of heavy lifting too, carrying you through the highs and crashes with songs that linger long after the credits, and the film’s take on the “hero” figure is messy enough to be fascinating even when you don’t agree with him. It’s not for everyone—its violence, substance abuse, and abrasive lead can be a dealbreaker—but if you want a love story that’s raw, operatic, and unapologetically extreme, this one is hard to shake.

Kabir Singh is aiming for a raw, operatic love story about a brilliant young doctor whose passion turns self-destructive when society and family get in the way, and it undeniably commits to that intensity. The problem is the film often treats Kabir’s aggression, control, and spiraling addiction as romantic “hero” behavior rather than something meaningfully challenged, which can feel like it’s excusing toxic dynamics instead of examining them. If you’re sensitive to misogyny-coded writing, domineering relationships, or stories that blur the line between love and possession, this will likely frustrate or even anger you. That said, Shahid Kapoor brings ferocious energy, the music and pacing keep it watchable, and if you’re specifically looking for a messy, larger-than-life character study without moral handholding, you may find it compelling.
