Radhe Shyam (2022)
Vikramaditya, a world-renowned palmist, believes love does not exist in his stars, until he meets Prerana. But when destiny tries to pull them apart, will love prevail?
What people think about Radhe Shyam
Radhe Shyam is the kind of lavish, old-school romantic drama that swings for the fences, wrapping a love story in the intoxicating idea that fate can be read, argued with, and maybe even rewritten. Set against a dreamy late-’70s European backdrop, it leans into grand visuals, sweeping music, and larger-than-life emotions, giving Prabhas and Pooja Hegde plenty of room to play their chemistry with sincerity and star-powered charisma. The movie’s pleasure is in its scale and mood: elegant trains, stormy skies, and a sense of destiny pressing in from every corner, all delivered with a painterly eye and unabashed romantic flair. It won’t be for viewers who prefer grounded realism, but if you’re in the mood for a big, melodious, visually opulent romance that believes in the power of love to challenge the universe, it’s an easy ticket to take.
Radhe Shyam is aiming for a sweeping, old-school romantic tragedy with fate-versus-free-will stakes, dressed up in glossy 1970s European postcard visuals. The problem is the screenplay often treats big emotional turns like checkboxes, so the romance can feel more like a series of dramatic announcements than something you actually believe, and the pacing drags hard between set pieces. If you’re the type who needs tight logic, grounded character motivation, and convincing chemistry to buy into a love story, this will test your patience. If, however, you’re happy to coast on Prabhas’ star presence, lush production design, and melodrama that’s more “grand” than “deep,” you may still find it watchable as a visual spectacle.
