Alexandre Aja turns a flooded Florida home into a claustrophobic maze where danger can come from any dark corner, and the film’s brisk pace makes each setback land like a punch you don’t see coming. Kaya Scodelario anchors the mayhem with a gritty, physical performance, while the strained father-daughter bond gives the carnage an emotional pulse that keeps it from feeling like empty splatter. If you’re squeamish about bloody animal attacks, it may be too intense, but if you want a nasty, efficient ride that delivers real thrills without overstaying its welcome, this one bites down and doesn’t let go.

Crawl is trying to be a tight, no-nonsense survival ride: one flooded house, a worsening storm, and a simple mission to get out alive. When it leans into that stripped-down premise, it delivers efficient tension, solid pacing, and a couple of genuinely nerve-jangling set pieces anchored by committed performances. The catch is that it’s very much a “creature-feature in a bottle,” so if you want originality, deeper character work, or a plot that feels less familiar and more distinctive, this may play like a well-made but disposable thrill machine.
