Annabelle Comes Home is the rare franchise sequel that understands its greatest asset isn’t mythology—it’s momentum: one house, one cursed room, and a night that turns every shadowy corner into a dare. Gary Dauberman stages the Warrens’ artifact collection like a wicked toy box, mixing old-fashioned jump scares with a playful, haunted-house vibe that’s more “roller-coaster of dread” than grim endurance test. Mckenna Grace gives the film a beating heart as Judy, grounding the mayhem with a kid’s-eye sincerity while the movie gleefully unleashes a parade of creepy objects and entities that feel like campfire stories come to life. If you want slow-burn, prestige horror, this may feel a little too eager to entertain—but if you’re on the fence and crave a brisk, crowd-pleasing scare-fest with charm and Conjuring-universe winks, it’s an easy night-in win.

Annabelle Comes Home is clearly trying to be a fun, contained “night in the haunted museum” ride, stuffing the Warrens’ artifact room with enough creepy curios to keep the scares coming. The problem is it often plays like a horror theme-park walkthrough: lots of stop-and-start set pieces and predictable jump scares, with a thin story that takes its time getting anywhere. If you want a genuinely tense, original Conjuring-universe entry with lingering dread, this one may feel a bit gimmicky and safe. That said, the young cast is likable (Mckenna Grace in particular), and if you’re happy with fast, glossy, PG-13-style frights and a grab-bag of monsters, it does deliver that kind of popcorn horror.
