A year after the mysterious disappearance of an 8 year-old girl, we meet her grieving family as they return home from her memorial service in their small town. Later that evening, strange lights appear in the nearby forest and the family is exposed to an inexplicably strange phenomenon that rattles them to the core. The origin of the lights appear to be visitors from another world that seemingly terrorize the family. What they don't realize is that these 'beings' will lead the family to the truth behind the little girl's disturbing disappearance.

What people think about Dark Encounter

Dark Encounter earns your attention by taking a familiar “lights in the woods” premise and grounding it in something rarer for sci-fi horror: raw, believable grief that makes every strange sound and shadow feel personal. It’s a lean, well-made little thriller that uses atmosphere and mounting dread instead of flashy effects, letting the suspense tighten scene by scene until you’re fully locked in. The vibe is chilly and intimate, the kind of movie that plays best late at night with the lights low, and it has a knack for steering you toward surprises without feeling cheap. If you need big-budget spectacle or perfectly tidy plotting, it may not be your thing—but if you like smart, unsettling genre stories that linger after the credits, this one is an easy recommendation.
