My Spy (2020)

My Spy is the rare action-comedy that wins you over not with bigger explosions, but with a surprisingly sweet, old-fashioned charm: a tough-as-nails operative brought to heel by a kid who’s smarter than the adults around her. Dave Bautista leans into his gentle-giant persona with terrific timing, and Chloe Coleman is a genuine find—funny, fearless, and never cloying—so their push-pull chemistry carries the movie even when the spy stuff turns knowingly silly. Director Peter Segal keeps the vibe light and amiable, mixing family warmth with just enough PG-13 crunch to make the set pieces pop without turning mean-spirited. If you’re looking for a deep espionage thriller, this isn’t it, but if you want an easy, good-natured crowd-pleaser with laughs and heart, it’s a very pleasant mission to accept.
