The Lie (2018)

The vibe is sleek, anxious, and relentlessly tense—less about gore and more about the way a family can talk itself into the unthinkable when fear takes the wheel. It won’t be for everyone if you need likable characters or clean moral lines, but if you enjoy suspense built on choices spiraling out of control, this one is wickedly watchable.

The Lie is aiming for a tense, morally messy thriller about how one bad moment can snowball into a family’s worst instincts, and for a while the setup does a decent job of pulling you in. The problem is the movie keeps demanding you accept increasingly implausible choices from supposedly intelligent adults, and the performances often lean so hard into panic that it starts to feel overwrought rather than suspenseful.
