Anna Elizabeth James leans into a Hitchcock-by-way-of-De Palma vibe—stylish, a little lurid, and proudly heightened—so the movie plays less like kitchen-sink realism and more like a page-turner come to life. Kristin Davis grounds the swirl with a surprisingly game, vulnerable performance as a woman watching her orderly world turn slippery, while the nanny’s enigmatic presence keeps the mystery simmering even when you think you’ve got it pegged. If you want a grounded, subtle drama, this may feel too soapy, but if you’re in the mood for a twisty, sensual, late-night thriller with a strong atmosphere, it’s an easy watch to fall into.
