And then there’s Jeremy Irons, giving Neville Chamberlain a bracing, unexpectedly poignant dimension that invites you to reconsider the man without rewriting the facts. It’s talky in the best way—more suspense than spectacle—so if you want battlefield action you may feel its restraint, but if you like smart, well-acted historical drama that tightens like a noose, it’s absolutely worth your time.
