Holly Slept Over is a disarmingly human sex comedy that treats its provocative setup less like a cheap gag and more like a pressure test for a marriage—funny, messy, and strangely tender in the way real life tends to be. Joshua Friedlander keeps the vibe intimate and lived-in, letting sharp writing and beautifully awkward pauses do the heavy lifting while Josh Lawson and Britt Lower play a couple whose love is real even when their communication is not. Nathalie Emmanuel is the secret weapon: warm, sensual, and empathetic enough to make every charged moment feel complicated rather than exploitative. It’s frank about sex and casually includes marijuana, so it won’t be for viewers who prefer their rom-coms coy, but if you like adult comedies that actually understand emotions, it’s an easy recommendation.
