It Chapter Two (2019)
27 years after overcoming the malevolent supernatural entity Pennywise, the former members of the Losers' Club, who have grown up and moved away from Derry, are brought back together by a devastating phone call.
What people think about It Chapter Two
It Chapter Two earns its keep by turning a familiar “return to your hometown” premise into a grand, bruised, often funny reckoning with the things we swear we’ve outgrown. Andy Muschietti leans into a big, operatic horror vibe—less pure nightmare fuel than the first film, but more emotionally expansive—powered by a terrific adult ensemble whose chemistry makes every reunion scene crackle. Bill Hader is the secret weapon, threading humor and hurt in a way that keeps the movie human even when the imagery goes spectacularly off the rails, and the set pieces are frequently bold, strange, and visually striking. If you want relentless scares, it may feel more like a dark, effects-driven thriller with jolts than a nonstop terror ride—but if you’re in the mood for a punchy, crowd-pleasing sequel that treats its characters as more than cannon fodder, it’s a worthy trip back to Derry.
It Chapter Two is clearly aiming for an epic, grown-up reunion that mixes grief, friendship, and big supernatural spectacle, and the cast (especially Bill Hader) does a lot of heavy lifting to keep it watchable. The problem is it’s bloated and choppy, with a repetitive “set-piece then reset” rhythm that drags the momentum and makes the long runtime feel even longer. If you’re hoping for the lean, genuinely unsettling punch of the first film, the scares here often get smothered by noisy CGI and over-explained mythology. Worth it if you want closure and character banter on a grand scale; not the one if you want tight pacing and real dread.
