Explained

What people think about It Chapter Two

It Chapter Two earns its keep by turning a familiar “return to your hometown” premise into a grand, bruised, often funny reckoning with the things we swear we’ve outgrown. Andy Muschietti leans into a big, operatic horror vibe—less pure nightmare fuel than the first film, but more emotionally expansive—powered by a terrific adult ensemble whose chemistry makes every reunion scene crackle. Bill Hader is the secret weapon, threading humor and hurt in a way that keeps the movie human even when the imagery goes spectacularly off the rails, and the set pieces are frequently bold, strange, and visually striking. If you want relentless scares, it may feel more like a dark, effects-driven thriller with jolts than a nonstop terror ride—but if you’re in the mood for a punchy, crowd-pleasing sequel that treats its characters as more than cannon fodder, it’s a worthy trip back to Derry.
