The problem is that it often feels like “thriller by checklist”: familiar beats, convenient near-misses, and a few red herrings that make the danger feel manufactured even when the real story is inherently gripping. If you’re allergic to glossy, sentimental storytelling or you want something messier, more ambiguous, and less predictable about life in the GDR, this may leave you cold. But if you just want a straightforward, family-safe historical suspense ride with a clear sense of stakes and momentum, it’s an efficient watch.
