Meghna Gulzar directs with a steady, restrained hand, building tension not through flashy heroics but through the quiet terror of living a double life in plain sight. Alia Bhatt is terrific as Sehmat, giving the film its moral weight and emotional clarity, while the 1971 backdrop adds urgency without tipping into chest-thumping propaganda. If you want a spy thriller that’s smart, tense, and deeply felt rather than action-forward, this one will stay with you.

Raazi is aiming for a grounded, human-scale spy thriller where the real tension comes from a young woman’s moral compromises rather than flashy action, and that intention is admirable. But if you want a sharp, twisty espionage plot, you may find the storytelling a bit muddled and occasionally hard to buy, with some developments feeling more convenient than credible. The pacing leans heavily into domestic drama and simmering dread, so viewers expecting big set pieces or clever spycraft might get restless. Still, it has a strong sense of atmosphere, a serious tone, and enough emotional weight to work if you’re here for a tense wartime drama more than a “wow” thriller.
