Ratsasan is the kind of thriller that grabs you by the collar and refuses to loosen its grip, not because it’s flashy, but because it’s meticulously constructed—each scene tightening the vise until you realize you’ve been holding your breath. Ram Kumar stages the investigation with a filmmaker’s precision and a true-crime chill, letting small details and unnerving patterns build dread while Vishnu Vishal grounds it all with a performance that feels urgent, human, and increasingly haunted. The mood is dark and relentless, elevated by a score that needles your nerves at exactly the wrong moments, turning ordinary spaces into places you don’t want to be alone in. Fair warning: the subject matter is disturbing and the violence can be severe, but if you’re on the fence and you want a smart, hard-hitting mystery that actually pays off its suspense, this one earns your time.

Ratsasan is clearly aiming to be a tense, cat-and-mouse serial-killer thriller with a rookie cop racing the clock, and when it leans into pure suspense it can be genuinely gripping. The problem is it sometimes gets there with convenience rather than cleverness: coincidences pile up, red herrings feel a bit too “planted,” and the pacing could use trimming, which can blunt the mystery if you’ve seen a lot of psycho-killer templates before. It’s also an intense watch, with severe violence and disturbing implications around crimes against schoolgirls, so this isn’t something to throw on casually. If you can handle the subject matter and want a high-stakes, mainstream thriller with strong moments of tension more than airtight plotting, it’ll likely work; if you need originality and tight logic, you may end up frustrated.
