Destination Wedding (2017)

Destination Wedding is a romantic comedy with bite: a sun-drenched getaway where the real fireworks come from two sharp-tongued cynics circling each other like fencers who can’t resist one more touché. Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder have the kind of lived-in chemistry you don’t manufacture, and the movie wisely lets them carry the day with rapid-fire, hyper-verbal sparring that’s as funny as it is revealing. The vibe is dry, a little prickly, and unexpectedly sweet in the way it sneaks up on you, trading sugary montage energy for conversational duels and small, human turns. Destination Wedding is trying to be a sharp, talky romance where two prickly exes bicker their way to something resembling connection, all against a sunny “wedding chaos” backdrop. The problem is it leans so hard on nonstop, exaggerated dialogue and a sour, misanthropic tone that the chemistry can feel smothered instead of sparkly. If you want warmth, genuine romantic payoff, or even a lively destination-comedy vibe, you may find it dull, predictable, and oddly pointless.
