Hex (2022)

Hex has a wickedly simple hook and the good sense to lean into it: take the pure, breathless thrill of skydiving and lace it with supernatural dread until the sky itself feels hostile. The aerial photography is the real selling point—visceral, stomach-dropping, and shot with an immediacy that makes every freefall feel like a dare—while the cast plays it straight enough that the paranormal turns land with weight instead of wink. It starts as an extreme-sports rush and gradually tightens into a scrappy fight-for-survival thriller, with an opening mystery that pulls you in and a back stretch that goes for broke on tension and payoff. It’s not for everyone—if you need airtight logic and spotless plotting, you may notice some rough edges—but if you want a lean, high-concept horror ride that hits you where your fear of heights lives, Hex is an easy yes.

Hex is clearly trying to mash up extreme-sports adrenaline with a cursed-maneuver horror hook, and for a while the skydiving footage and airy cinematography do real work selling that premise. The problem is the movie can’t quite stick the landing: the low-budget effects and choppy pacing undercut the scares, and the story starts to feel like it’s making things up scene-to-scene rather than building a coherent supernatural logic. If you need your horror to have clean rules, convincing visuals, and a satisfying explanation, this will likely frustrate you more than it thrills. Still, if you’re mainly here for the skydiving set pieces and can tolerate a messy narrative, the final stretch has a bit more momentum and payoff than the middle.
