What people think about Guns Akimbo
Guns Akimbo is the kind of deliriously inventive action-comedy that grabs you by the collar and refuses to let go, a neon-soaked fever dream where the real joke is how far it’ll push its own premise. Daniel Radcliffe is terrific as a jittery everyman turned unwilling spectacle, selling both the panic and the darkly comic disbelief, while Samara Weaving storms in with feral charisma that makes every scene crackle. Director Jason Lei Howden shoots it with video-game velocity—loud, stylized, and gleefully over-the-top—so even when it’s ridiculous, it’s ridiculous with purpose and momentum. Fair warning: the violence is very graphic and the tone is aggressively chaotic, but if you’re in the mood for a savage, creative thrill ride that knows exactly what kind of midnight movie it wants to be, this one hits like a shot of adrenaline.
Guns Akimbo is trying to be a hyper-caffeinated satire about online bloodlust, packaging it as a video-game-meets-gladiator sprint with Daniel Radcliffe gleefully leaning into the chaos. The problem is it often confuses “loud” with “sharp,” so the commentary stays pretty shallow while the movie barrels through clichés and noisy set pieces at a pace that can feel more exhausting than exhilarating. If you’re sensitive to relentless graphic violence, constant profanity, or headache-inducing visual aggression, this will likely feel like punishment rather than fun. That said, Samara Weaving brings real feral charisma and the film has bursts of inventive, nasty energy—just don’t expect depth or breathing room.
