The Cleaner (2021)

The Cleaner is the kind of small, scrappy indie crime drama that sneaks up on you—not with flashy twists, but with a humane, lived-in portrait of an ordinary man making one desperate choice after another. Erin Elders gives Los Angeles a grounded, sun-faded grit, and the tension builds in a way that feels less like a puzzle box and more like life tightening its grip, with relatable stakes and a moral knot you can’t just shrug off. The performances sell the whole thing, finding real empathy in Buck’s day-to-day struggle and letting the mystery elements unfold naturally rather than mechanically.
