Salyut-7 is clearly aiming to be a white-knuckle survival-and-repair thriller in orbit, celebrating human grit under impossible conditions, and when it sticks to the nuts-and-bolts danger of docking with a dead, frozen station, it’s genuinely tense and watchable. The problem is it can’t resist cranking the drama into geopolitical chest-thumping, with invented confrontations and a propaganda-ish USSR-versus-America framing that starts to feel like a different movie barging in. If you’re coming for a grounded “based on true events” space story, the heavy fictionalization may irritate you more than it entertains. But if you can treat it as a slick, old-school blockbuster loosely inspired by history, there’s enough suspense and atmosphere to make the ride worthwhile.
