Asphalt Burning (2020)
The third and final instalment in the Burnout trilogy. This time, the road leads through Norway, to Sweden, Denmark and finally Germany to race on the famous racing track, Nürburgring.
What people think about Asphalt Burning
Asphalt Burning is the kind of movie that remembers why we fell in love with car culture on screen in the first place: not just for the engines, but for the sheer, giddy freedom of the open road. It plays like a high-octane road trip comedy with a big heart, hopping across Scandinavia toward the holy grail of asphalt, the Nürburgring, and it keeps the momentum lively with breezy banter and a sense of camaraderie that makes the miles fly by. Anders Baasmo Christiansen’s Roy anchors the ride with a likable, lived-in charm, while the film’s tone stays light and crowd-pleasing—more “good time with friends” than grim street-racing saga. If you’re looking for grounded realism or a deeply serious drama, this may not be your lane, but if you want a fun, accessible finale that celebrates speed, scenery, and silliness, it’s an easy ticket to punch.
Asphalt Burning is clearly trying to be a loud, crowd-pleasing road-race finale: big personalities, bigger engines, and a “one last run” trip across Scandinavia to the Nürburgring. The problem is it often feels clumsy and unsure of its own identity, bouncing between action and comedy without landing either with much confidence. The effects and CGI don’t always sell the speed or stakes, which makes the set pieces feel cheaper than the story wants them to be. If you’re already invested in the trilogy and just want more cars, banter, and scenic highways, you’ll probably get enough to coast on; if you need tight storytelling, consistent tone, or convincing spectacle, this one may test your patience.
