Blaze (2018)

Blaze is clearly trying to be a soulful, lived-in tribute to an overlooked songwriter, more interested in mood, memory, and the ache behind the music than a clean, crowd-pleasing biopic. The three-timeline structure and loose, impressionistic storytelling can feel drifting and even incoherent, so if you want a straightforward rise-and-fall narrative with clear momentum, you may end up frustrated or bored. It also doesn’t shy away from heavy drinking and drug use, which can make the experience feel grim rather than inspiring.
