Creed II (2018)
Between personal obligations and training for his next big fight against an opponent with ties to his family's past, Adonis Creed is up against the challenge of his life.
What people think about Creed II
Creed II earns its punches the old-fashioned way: with heart, sweat, and characters who feel like they’ve lived every bruise they carry. Steven Caple Jr. keeps the fight scenes visceral, but the real hook is the emotional weight behind them—Michael B. Jordan gives Adonis a restless, vulnerable intensity, Sylvester Stallone brings weathered warmth, and Tessa Thompson grounds it all with a love story that actually matters. The movie hums with a classic underdog vibe while expanding the franchise’s legacy in a way that feels both crowd-pleasing and surprisingly tender, building to a climax and ending that land with genuine feeling. If you want a boxing film that’s as invested in family and identity as it is in big, cathartic moments, this one delivers—though if you’re tired of the Rocky formula, it doesn’t pretend to reinvent it.
Creed II is clearly trying to fuse the newer Creed story with the old Rocky mythology, delivering a big, emotional “legacy” bout while pushing Adonis into adulthood and fatherhood. The problem is it leans heavily on familiar Rocky beats and franchise recycling, so if you want the freshness and surprise of the first Creed, this can feel more like a competent remix than a bold sequel. It also juggles a lot of drama on both sides of the ring, which sometimes makes the storytelling feel a bit overstuffed and oddly mechanical rather than truly urgent. Still, the performances (especially Michael B. Jordan) and the raw, punishing fight choreography give it weight—just don’t go in expecting reinvention; go in expecting comfort food with a few bruises.
