Breaking & Exiting (2018)

Breaking & Exiting has the kind of offbeat, bruised-heart charm that sneaks up on you: it starts with a breezy criminal premise and quietly turns into a tender, darkly funny two-hander about two lost people colliding at exactly the wrong (and right) moment. Milo Gibson plays Harry with an easy warmth that makes his bad decisions feel human, while Jordan Danger gives Daisy a raw, unpredictable edge that keeps the film emotionally honest even when it’s flirting with romance. Director Peter Facinelli keeps the vibe intimate and slightly jagged—more indie date-night than glossy rom-com—letting awkward humor and real vulnerability share the same scene without forcing either. It’s not for viewers who want big plot fireworks or squeaky-clean comfort, but if you like dramedies that find sweetness in the mess, this one’s a worthwhile break-in.

Breaking & Exiting is clearly aiming for a quirky, darkly comedic romance about two lost people accidentally colliding and nudging each other toward something better. The problem is it often feels like a premise in search of a movie: character motivations stay thin, the script leans on “isn’t this odd?” energy instead of real escalation, and the central chemistry has to do a lot of heavy lifting it doesn’t always manage. If you need sharp writing, believable emotional turns, or a rom-com spark that sells the relationship, this may feel flat and a bit self-satisfied. Still, if you’re in the mood for a low-stakes, offbeat indie with mild edge and you don’t mind style over substance, you might find it an easy enough one-time watch.
