Stephen Lang is magnetic as the Blind Man—part force of nature, part walking moral question mark—and the film smartly leans into that ambiguity, letting you feel both dread and reluctant fascination as he’s pushed back into violence. The vibe is gritty and claustrophobic, with suspense that comes from sound, space, and timing more than cheap jump scares, and Madelyn Grace brings a grounded, human pulse to the chaos. It’s not for the squeamish (the brutality is real and frequent), but if you want a hard-edged horror-thriller that commits to tension and doesn’t flinch, this one delivers.

Don’t Breathe 2 is clearly trying to flip the first film’s dynamic into a grim “rescue thriller,” pushing the Blind Man into an antihero role while keeping the violence nasty and the tension claustrophobic. The problem is the movie strains hard to make that shift feel acceptable, and if you couldn’t get on board with him before, this attempt at softening or redirecting your sympathy may feel awkward at best and tone-deaf at worst. The plot also leans into increasingly far-fetched, self-aware escalation that can come off more clunky than suspenseful, with stretches that feel like the film is going through the motions between brutal set pieces.
