1922 is the kind of horror that seeps in quietly, less interested in jump scares than in watching a single bad choice rot outward until it poisons everything it touches. Zak Hilditch treats Stephen King’s rural nightmare with patient, dust-dry confidence, letting the wide-open farmland feel like a trap, and the creeping dread build with the inevitability of a guilty conscience. Thomas Jane is terrific as a man who talks himself into monstrosity and then can’t talk his way out of what follows, anchoring the film with a performance that’s as human as it is harrowing. Be warned: it’s grim, violent, and morally suffocating, but if you like crime-drama realism fused with supernatural unease and beautifully bleak cinematography, this one lingers long after the credits.
