I See You (2019)

I See You is the kind of thriller that reminds you how much fun it is to be expertly misled—Adam Randall builds a mystery like a clock, all clicking gears and quiet dread, until the whole thing snaps into a sharper, stranger shape. It starts in the familiar territory of a missing-child investigation and a family under strain, then slowly poisons the air with unnerving little wrongnesses around the house, turning domestic spaces into traps you can’t quite map. The filmmaking is confident and precise: the imagery is chilly, the score knows when to whisper and when to press, and the suspense is stretched so tight you’ll feel it in your shoulders. It’s not for viewers who shy away from grim subject matter or a few nasty jolts, but if you like your horror smart, your mystery twisty, and your tension sustained, this one earns your time.

I See You is clearly aiming for a twisty, small-town missing-kid mystery that morphs into a home-invasion nightmare, and it does have a few genuinely creepy “something’s wrong in this house” moments. The problem is the movie leans so hard on mid-film reversals and contrived mechanics that it can start to feel like it’s yanking the rug out just to prove it can, rather than building suspense naturally. The pacing is uneven and the character drama (especially the marital fallout) can play more like clutter than tension, which may leave you bored between the big beats. If you like pulpy thrillers with nasty subject matter and don’t mind some clunky execution in exchange for a couple of solid shocks, it’s worth a look; if you want a tightly written mystery or elegant horror, this probably isn’t your night.
