Obsession (2019)

20191h 31mThriller

Before meeting George Good, Sonny Jordan was just a lost drifter with a troubled past floating from town to town, looking for work. As fate would have it, Sonny ends up saving George's life from a murderous back-alley mugger. As thanks, George gives Sonny a home and a job as a mechanic on his farm in the lonely Louisiana Bayou. Sonny quickly settles in and makes himself useful around the place but then Sonny meets Larissa, George's alluring wife. She has a mysterious past and the two are irresistibly drawn to each other. The two begin a passionate affair leading them to construct a twisted plot to take George's life in cold blood in order to be together. As their despicable plan unravels, they learn how far they are willing to go to cover their misdeed.

Explained

What people think about Obsession

Obsession earns its title the old-fashioned way: by pulling you into a humid Louisiana bayou atmosphere where desire feels like a fever and every quiet moment hums with danger. Goran Dukić frames the story like a slow-burning noir, letting temptation and guilt tighten their grip scene by scene, while Mekhi Phifer brings a weary, searching edge that makes Sonny more than just a thriller archetype. The film’s pleasures are in its mood—sweaty, intimate, and steadily escalating—where romance doesn’t soften the sharp corners so much as make them cut deeper. If you like thrillers that simmer with moral rot and bad decisions rather than sprinting on action beats, this one is a darkly watchable ride; if you need sympathetic heroes, it may feel deliberately uncomfortable.
