The Adventurers (2017)
The world's top thieves join forces to pull off the heist of a lifetime. But when they find themselves pursued across Europe by a legendary French detective, they'll have to take their game to the next level.
What people think about The Adventurers
The Adventurers is the kind of glossy, globe-trotting heist movie that remembers the real pleasure of the genre: watching smart people do difficult things with style, speed, and a wink. Stephen Fung keeps the pace brisk and the visuals polished, turning European backdrops into a playground for elaborate set pieces, slick escapes, and just enough humor to make the danger feel fun rather than grim. Andy Lau carries the film with effortless movie-star confidence, while Shu Qi adds spark and swagger that keeps the team dynamic lively even when the plot tightens the screws. If you’re looking for a gritty, realistic crime story this isn’t it—but if you want a charismatic caper with sharp momentum and crowd-pleasing action, it’s an easy night at the movies.
The Adventurers is clearly aiming for a glossy, globe-trotting heist romp with star power, European scenery, and slick cat-and-mouse energy between thieves and a relentless detective. The problem is the script rarely earns the style: the plotting feels familiar and often illogical, the dialogue can be clunky, and the characters are thin enough that the big twists and betrayals land more like checkboxes than drama. If you need clever heist mechanics, sharp tension, or memorable personalities, this will probably feel generic and forgettable. If you’re simply in the mood for Andy Lau and Shu Qi looking cool in nice locations with some serviceable action and light crime-adventure vibes, it can still pass as easy background entertainment.
