Aml Ameen brings a simmering intensity that anchors the story, and Shantol Jackson adds emotional weight that keeps it from becoming just another genre exercise. It’s not a gentle watch and it doesn’t sand down its rough edges, but if you want an ambitious, energetic film that feels lived-in rather than manufactured, this one earns your time.

Yardie is clearly aiming for a gritty, socially grounded crime saga that traces trauma from 1970s Jamaica to 1980s London, and you can feel Idris Elba’s intention to give it texture and authenticity. The problem is it often plays like a collage of familiar gangster beats, jumping between moods and pacing in a way that can feel both rushed and oddly sluggish. Characters and plot threads don’t always land with the weight they’re reaching for, so the story can come off muddled rather than gripping. If you want a tight, sharply written crime drama, this may disappoint, but if you’re open to a stylish, atmosphere-first take with strong settings and flashes of intensity, it’s worth a look.
