Phantom Thread is clearly aiming for a classy, slow-burn character study about obsession, control, and the strange bargains people make in love, all wrapped in immaculate 1950s haute couture. If you’re expecting a sweeping romance or a plot that moves with obvious signposts, this can feel wandering and oddly elusive, with tension that’s more about mood, routine, and power shifts than big dramatic turns.
