Deadly Pickup (2016)

Deadly Pickup is a throwback erotic thriller that knows exactly what it’s selling: a sleek, pulpy ride where danger and desire share the same backseat. Carter Cruise gives Breezy a playful, predatory charisma that keeps the movie humming with a knowingly wicked energy, and the production is sharper than you might expect for a late-night cable-style shocker. The tone is more seductive than scary—violence is quick and relatively mild, while the explicit, frequent sex and nudity are very much the main event—so it plays like a naughty noir with a poisonous edge. If you’re on the fence and you enjoy erotic thrillers that lean unapologetically into their steaminess without forgetting to keep the suspense moving, this one delivers; if explicit content isn’t your thing, it won’t win you over.

Deadly Pickup is clearly aiming for a pulpy, erotic “fatal seductress on the highway” thriller, with a campy hook in the poisonous ring and a roaming-killer setup. The problem is it plays far more like a softcore skin-flick that occasionally remembers it’s supposed to have a plot, with thin suspense, flat acting, and kills that feel oddly mild and repetitive. If you’re coming for a real thriller—tension, twists, credible danger—you’ll likely feel shortchanged, and if explicit nudity isn’t your main reason to watch, there’s not much here to justify the runtime. The redeeming bit is that it commits to its B-movie trashy tone and a couple of performers bring some playful energy, but that’s a very specific taste, not a crowd-pleaser.
