What people think about Traffik
Traffik grabs you by the collar with a simple setup—a romantic mountain escape—and then twists it into a tight, nerve-rattling siege thriller that feels uncomfortably plausible. Deon Taylor keeps the tension humming with a lean, forward-driving pace, and Paula Patton anchors the chaos with a performance that’s more than scream-and-run survival: you can see the gears turning as fear hardens into resolve. Beneath the cat-and-mouse action, the film carries real urgency, using its genre thrills to point at a grim, modern reality without turning preachy. It is brutal and disturbing at times (it’s rated R for a reason), so it’s not for everyone, but if you want a high-intensity thriller with a pulse and a point, this one delivers.
Traffik is clearly aiming for a ripped-from-the-headlines thriller that turns a romantic getaway into a survival scenario, with a real-world issue at its core. The problem is it often treats that subject more like a shock device than a thoughtfully handled theme, and the writing leans on implausible decisions that can make the danger feel manufactured instead of tense. Pacing is uneven, with stretches that spin their wheels or veer into generic home-invasion beats, so the movie can feel underpowered for an action-thriller and uncomfortable for a social-issue drama. If you can accept messy logic and a blunt, sensational approach, Paula Patton’s committed performance and a few solid suspense moments may carry you; if you want tight plotting or sensitive handling, this probably isn’t your weekend watch.
