Daddy's Home 2 (2017)

Daddy’s Home 2 is the rare sequel that understands what made the first movie work and then adds a welcome shot of holiday chaos: it turns a bickering co-parenting duo into an uneasy team, then drops two wildly different grandpas into the mix like lit matches. Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg keep the comic rhythm snappy, but it’s the generational clash—Mel Gibson’s swaggering old-school dad against John Lithgow’s disarmingly sweet, ever-present father—that gives the movie its extra spark and surprising warmth. The tone is broad, noisy, and cheerfully ridiculous, the kind of Christmas comedy that plays like a living-room argument turned into a snow-globe farce, with enough heart underneath to make the mayhem feel earned. If you don’t enjoy PG-13 raunch and slapstick, this won’t convert you, but if you’re on the fence and want something easy, funny, and seasonally comforting, it’s a solid bet.

Daddy’s Home 2 is trying to be a loud, crowd-pleasing Christmas farce about blended families, fragile masculinity, and learning to co-parent when the grandpas show up to stir the pot. The problem is it leans hard on familiar holiday-movie beats and broad slapstick, so the jokes can feel forced, the pacing lurches from bit to bit, and the story rarely surprises. If you’re not already on board with Will Ferrell/Mark Wahlberg doing exaggerated bickering for two hours, this will probably play as noisy and formulaic rather than hilarious.
