One-Line (2017)
A group of professional con artists scam poor, unsuspecting citizens with fraudulent bank loans. The scams go well for a while, but then they begin to distrust each other.
What people think about One-Line
One-Line is the kind of crime thriller that feels sharp because it plays like it could really happen, grounding its con-game thrills in realistic details and a script that clicks with the confidence of a well-run hustle. The performances sell every grin and side-eye, letting tension seep in naturally as the team’s easy money starts to curdle into paranoia, and the movie keeps you leaning forward without resorting to flashy gimmicks. There’s an underdog pulse to it, too—an unexpectedly human thread that gives the ride a satisfying emotional shape alongside the scams and double-checks. If you want big action set pieces or cartoonish villains, this isn’t that kind of caper, but if you like smart, entertaining crime stories that feel lived-in and a little uncomfortably true, it’s a terrific watch.
One-Line wants to be a slick, streetwise con-artist thriller about greed, loyalty, and the inevitable cracks in a scam crew. The problem is it takes its time setting up the hustle, then drifts into slow, repetitive stretches where the characters don’t deepen enough to make you care who betrays whom. When it finally moves to a payoff, the ending can feel rushed and oddly anticlimactic, like the film spent its best energy on the premise rather than the execution. If you love methodical scam mechanics and can tolerate a materialistic, low-emotion tone, you might find it watchable, but if you’re hoping for sharp pacing, memorable personalities, or a satisfying crescendo, this probably isn’t your best use of two hours.
