The animation pops with lush forest color and sparkly, kinetic set pieces, while the voice cast keeps everything grounded in warmth and humor even as the tone flirts with spooky folklore and suspense. It’s also a surprisingly satisfying “hangout” movie—songs and character moments flow naturally, giving Sunset Shimmer and Twilight a heartfelt emotional through-line that feels earned rather than preachy. If you’re not into bubbly musical fantasy or the Equestria Girls vibe, it won’t convert you, but if you want an upbeat, good-looking, genuinely fun camp story with a slightly darker edge, this one is easy to recommend.

Legend of Everfree is clearly trying to mash up a summer-camp adventure with a “learn to control your powers” storyline, while keeping the Equestria Girls vibe of friendship, jokes, and musical breaks. The problem is the plotting gets busy and oddly rushed, with a lot of moving parts and a villain setup that feels more like a checklist than a satisfying build, so the emotional lesson doesn’t land as cleanly as it wants to. The songs are serviceable but not especially memorable, and the “spooky camp” angle leans heavier on scares and peril than some parents (or younger viewers) may expect from this brand. If you’re here mainly for the characters, the new superpower gimmick and Twilight/Sunset’s supportive dynamic are the redeeming hook—but if you want tight writing, standout music, or a lighter tone, this one may test your patience.
