Logan Lucky (2017)
Trying to reverse a family curse, brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan set out to execute an elaborate robbery during the legendary Coca-Cola 600 race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
What people think about Logan Lucky
Logan Lucky is the rare heist movie that feels both cleverly engineered and warmly lived-in, like Ocean’s Eleven got dust on its boots and a big heart beating under the hood. Steven Soderbergh directs with breezy confidence, turning the roar of race-day spectacle into a playground for comic timing, quiet character moments, and a plot that keeps slipping the knot just when you think you’ve got it. Channing Tatum and Adam Driver make the Logan brothers instantly lovable as underdogs with more grit than glamour, while Daniel Craig storms in with a gloriously off-kilter energy that jolts every scene awake. If you want grim crime realism, this isn’t it—but if you’re craving a smart, funny, crowd-pleasing caper that never talks down to you, it’s a terrific bet.
Logan Lucky is clearly aiming for a scruffy, blue-collar cousin to Ocean’s Eleven: a clever heist with regional flavor, oddball characters, and a laid-back, ironic grin. The problem is that the movie often settles into a relaxed, almost sleepy rhythm, so if you want tight momentum and constant “wow” turns, it can feel sluggish and a bit lightweight. Some of the humor leans on broad caricature, which may read as charmingly silly to you or just shallow and repetitive if you’re not on its wavelength. Still, Soderbergh’s craft is steady, the cast is game (Daniel Craig in particular is a fun curveball), and if you’re happy with a low-stakes, hangout-style caper rather than a slick thrill ride, it’s an easy watch.
