Explained

What people think about After the Storm

After the Storm is special because it finds the quiet thunder inside ordinary lives, turning a single rain-soaked night into something gently revelatory. Hirokazu Kore-eda directs with a patient, masterful touch, letting small gestures and half-spoken regrets carry the emotional weight, while the performances feel so natural you forget you’re watching actors at all. The vibe is tender, wry, and deeply humane—more a soft ache than a big cry—where family history, disappointment, and love sit together in the same room like familiar furniture. If you’re craving high drama or neat catharsis it may feel understated, but if you’ve ever wished you could rewind a few choices and still hope for forgiveness, this one lands with poignant, lasting force.
