USSR, November, 1941. Based on the account by Vasiliy Koroteev this is the story of Panifilov's Twenty-Eight, a group of twenty-eight Red Army soldiers commanded by General Ivan Panfilov, that stopped the advance on Moscow of a column of fifty-four Nazi tanks of the 11th Panzer Division for several days. Though lightly armed they fight tirelessly and defiantly, with uncommon bravery and unwavering dedication, to protect Moscow and their Motherland.

Explained

What people think about Panfilov's 28 Men

Panfilov’s 28 Men has a rare, bracing purity: it strips war down to nerve, weather, and willpower, then lets you feel what it means for ordinary soldiers to become a human barricade against history. The filmmaking is lean and tactile, with a grounded sense of period detail and action that’s less about flashy heroics than the terrifying math of men versus machines, building tension as each moment of resistance costs something. It carries a sober, patriotic pulse, but it’s also surprisingly intimate—full of camaraderie, grit, and the kind of quiet resolve that lingers after the gunfire fades. If you want morally gray geopolitics or a broad, multi-front epic, this may feel narrowly focused, but if you’re on the fence and crave a tight, immersive stand-and-hold war drama, it delivers with conviction.
