12 Feet Deep takes a deliciously simple premise—two sisters trapped beneath a pool cover—and turns it into a tightly wound pressure cooker where every breath, every argument, and every second feels borrowed. Matt Eskandari keeps the camera close and the tension closer, letting the chilly, fluorescent stillness of an empty public pool become its own kind of nightmare, while Nora-Jane Noone and Alexandra Park sell the panic and the bruised history between them with raw, believable grit. What makes it pop isn’t just the survival mechanics, but the way the film uses confinement to strip these characters down to their essentials: fear, love, resentment, and the stubborn will to keep going. Fair warning: it’s intensely claustrophobic and emotionally prickly, so if you don’t like sustained trapped-in-one-place dread, you’ll feel it—but if you do, this is a lean, mean thriller that keeps you locked in right alongside them.

If you’re sensitive to drowning/entrapment anxiety, or you dislike villains who exist mainly to keep the story moving, this probably won’t be your idea of a good time; if you can accept those contrivances, the tight setting and committed performances do deliver sustained intensity.
