Max the terrier must cope with some major life changes when his owner gets married and has a baby. When the family takes a trip to the countryside, nervous Max has numerous run-ins with canine-intolerant cows, hostile foxes and a scary turkey. Luckily for Max, he soon catches a break when he meets Rooster, a gruff farm dog who tries to cure the lovable pooch of his neuroses.

What people think about The Secret Life of Pets 2

The Secret Life of Pets 2 earns its keep by turning a familiar “sequel” premise into a buoyant, surprisingly tender look at how love changes shape when a family grows—without ever forgetting to be funny. Chris Renaud keeps the pace zipping along with bright, expressive animation and a voice cast that knows how to land both the punchlines and the quieter, anxious little truths of being the pet who suddenly has more to protect. The vibe is a cheerful, high-energy pinball machine: part cozy family warmth, part countryside fish-out-of-water, part cartoon adventure, with set pieces that play like expertly timed comedy sketches. It won’t be for viewers who want one single, tightly focused storyline, but if you’re on the fence and in the mood for a PG crowd-pleaser with real heart under the hijinks, this one delivers.
