Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
Just when his time under house arrest is about to end, Scott Lang once again puts his freedom at risk to help Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym dive into the quantum realm and try to accomplish, against time and any chance of success, a very dangerous rescue mission.
What people think about Ant-Man and the Wasp
Ant-Man and the Wasp is Marvel at its most purely enjoyable: a clever, breezy caper that turns superhero spectacle into a playground of size-shifting imagination, where a toy becomes a weapon and an ordinary street can feel like a magic trick. Peyton Reed keeps the tone light on its feet without feeling flimsy, letting Paul Rudd’s everyman warmth and Evangeline Lilly’s sharp, confident energy spark into a genuinely winning partnership. The action is inventive rather than noisy, built around visual wit and momentum, and the humor lands because it grows out of character instead of winking at the audience. If you prefer your comic-book movies grim and operatic, this might feel too playful—but if you want charm, chemistry, and a science-fiction adventure that remembers to have fun, it’s an easy yes.
Ant-Man and the Wasp is clearly trying to be Marvel’s lighter, breezier palate cleanser: a heist-ish adventure with family stakes, goofy banter, and a sci-fi playground in the quantum realm. The problem is it juggles so many subplots and chases that it can feel busy but oddly slight, like a lot is happening without much of it sticking, and the humor is hit-or-miss depending on your tolerance for MCU quips. If you want a tight story with a memorable villain and a climax that really lands, this one may leave you shrugging—its effects-heavy finale isn’t as satisfying as the smaller, character-driven moments. Still, Paul Rudd’s charm and Evangeline Lilly finally getting to shine as the Wasp make it an easy watch if you’re in the mood for low-stakes fun rather than a must-see chapter.
