Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018)

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom earns its keep by turning dinosaur spectacle into something grander and moodier—an old-fashioned creature feature shot with modern, jaw-dropping craft. Director J.A. Bayona brings a sleek, almost gothic sense of dread and wonder to the franchise, staging set pieces that feel less like noise and more like cinematic events, with CGI so tactile you can practically feel the rain on the scales. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard give the chaos a human pulse, selling both the awe and the urgency without winking too hard at the camera. It’s a big, bold blockbuster that leans into thrills and atmosphere; if you prefer your dinosaur movies strictly sunny and swashbuckling, this darker edge may not be for you—but if you want the series to try something new while still delivering popcorn-sized excitement, it’s a terrific ride.

The problem is the screenplay keeps forcing characters into baffling choices and contrived set pieces, so the tension often feels manufactured rather than earned.
