Faultless (2016)

Faultless is the kind of psychological thriller that sneaks up on you: it starts with an everyday professional setback and tightens the screws until you realize you’ve been holding your breath. Marina Foïs is terrific, giving Constance a fierce intelligence and raw vulnerability that makes every choice feel both inevitable and unsettling, while the film’s crisp pacing and sly, confident plotting keep you leaning forward. There’s a cool, controlled vibe to it—elevated by sharp music and a watchful camera—that turns workplace rivalry and wounded pride into something genuinely gripping. It’s not for viewers who want comfort or easy moral signposts, but if you like tense, character-driven dramas that burrow under the skin, this one delivers.

Faultless is aiming for a tight psychological thriller about career panic, jealousy, and what happens when pride curdles into obsession. The problem is it keeps cranking the behavior into increasingly bizarre, implausible territory, so what should feel tense starts to feel like watching someone unravel for reasons the movie hasn’t quite earned. The stakes stay oddly small for how “insane” the escalation gets, and the score works overtime to manufacture unease instead of letting the drama do the heavy lifting. If you enjoy uncomfortable character studies with an unlikable, borderline sociopathic lead and don’t need realism, you might be fine; if you want grounded suspense with believable motivations, this likely isn’t for you.
